These days we all know we should be drinking a lot of water…hydration really is key.
But did you know most water is actually loaded with toxic chemicals, contaminants, and unhealthy microbes?
Just look at a few of the most common contaminants:
And these aren’t only toxic when you drink tap water, but also when you cook with it, shower in it, wash your clothes in it and even breath in the humidity from the shower!
In just a couple of months after moving into our brand new home, we started seeing mineral build up on the faucets and shower heads. The water tasted terrible and made chemical-tasting ice. We knew it was time to do something.
There are several options for drinking water – bottled water, filter pitchers, and filter attachments to name a few. But these aren’t helpful for showers, cooking, laundry, etc. I am not a big fan of drinking out of plastic and I hate the waste!
The only way to improve the health of your entire water system is to add a whole-house water system.
But even then there are so many choices! Softeners, conditioners, filters…what’s the best?
Let’s break it down:
Water softeners use salt and ion-exchange resins to remove calcium and magnesium hardness from the water. These reduce calcium and magnesium only, but have no impact on chlorination, iron staining, other chemical additives, bacteria/viruses, or toxic substances. They also add salt to the water which can be harmful to plants and should not be used to water lawns.
This type of system does not use salt, but uses ceramic or other media to attract hard water scaling and remove it from the water. This type of system is also not removing chlorination, iron staining, other chemical additives, bacteria/viruses, or toxic substances.
Whole House Water Filtration System:
A whole house filtration system is set up near the mainline water pipe into your home. Most systems contain a filter or a series of filters designed to remove specific contaminants in the water to include chlorination, heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides, volatile organic compounds, industrial solvents and more.
With so many options on the market, it can still be overwhelming to decide what to go with. After hours of research, reading reviews, digging deep into the technology, and examining the ongoing costs for filters and maintenance…our family opted to go with a combination unit for filtration and salt-free conditioning.
We chose this system for a variety of reasons…
- It came out the highest recommended by numerous sources.
- It was proven to remove the most contamination.
- It doesn’t use any salt so we can use it throughout the home, including watering our plants.
- It de-scales the existing pipes of any buildup from before the system was installed.
- The filters are only changed a couple of times a year and are very inexpensive.
- The system doesn’t waste a bunch of water cycling like most water softeners and many other filter units do.
This particular unit has a pre-filter for larger sediment, the salt-free conditioner unit, the whole house filter, and a post-filter for any final sediment. You also have the option to buy a UV attachment for a final treatment of the water for any living contamination (bacteria, viruses).
Water surrounds us all day, every day. Ensuring you have clean water is critical to your overall health. If you’re being exposed to toxins, heavy metals, mold, parasites, bacteria, or viruses in your drinking water, cooking water, laundry and showers, you could be causing damage to your organs, brain, gut microbes, skin, and preventing weight loss! Many of these toxic chemicals build up in our fat stores, and become increasingly difficult to remove.
For truly optimal health, we need pure, clean water in our lives.
