Is your water contaminated with forever chemicals?
Forever chemicals are a class of chemicals called PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) that don’t breakdown in the environment, so they last forever. They’ve been linked to cancer, reproductive disorders, developmental disorders, and reduced effectiveness of vaccines.
Some have been banned or limited for use in some products – like PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) in non-stick cookware and PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate) a chemical used in stain-resistant treatment for fabrics. However, since they were once heavily used, our water supply is seriously compromised.
Yet, so far, the EPA has not set any legal/safe limit for what is found in our water. They’re working on it and will likely have a standard set in the next 3-5 years. 3-5 YEARS! How many more causes of cancer, infertility, birth defects, and infectious diseases do we need before we take this stuff seriously?!
Even more sadly, even though many companies have voluntarily stopped using these specific compounds, the substances they’ve replaced them with aren’t likely any better. So now you’ll see “PFOA-free” on labels, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s healthy or even healthier.
So what do you do? Get a really good water filter! Whole-house preferably so you’re not drinking, cooking, showering, or laundering in toxic water.
This is the whole home filter I bought and I’ve been very happy with it. Tastes great, far less water spots, and the water even removed all of the mineral build up we had on our faucets!
- Doesn’t remove minerals, but does a great job of removing chemicals and toxins.
- Customize your system with your needed filters, tanks and even a UV unit to kill any microbes remaining in your water.
- The replacement filters are inexpensive and last a long time.
- There is no flushing of the system every week or month.
There are many other units on the market that do a great job of filtering chemicals. Some remove minerals, so be sure you do your research to ensure you know what type of system you’re buying. Check out the above Aquasana filters, Berkey systems and Multipure.
Buying bottled water isn’t a better option! There are numerous toxic chemicals found in plastic water bottles!
